Russian vegan influencer Zhanna Samsonova was passed at the age of 39 due to starvation on 21 July, 2023. She gained popularity in the social media where she showed raw vegan foods and she lived on a raw vegan diet consistently for the last 10 years which consisted of large sweet jackfruit, durian, and spiky fruit with bad odour.
Zhanna Samsonova experienced exhausting and swollen legs during her travels in Southeast Asia. Her friends suggested taking medical attention however she continued to travel without taking care or concern about her health.
Considering that she was living only on raw jackfruit, she was clearly suffering from a severe deficiency of protein, iron, calcium and vitamin B12,” says Ritika Samaddar, Regional Head, Nutrition And Dietetics, Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi.Samsonova’s mother said she succumbed to a “cholera-like infection.” Samsonova, in her own words, survived on a “completely raw vegan diet”.
Zhanna Samsonova had good intentions and thoughts to encourage her followers to take a vegan diet and eat well but her approach created health risk and some drawbacks also without well research on it.
It is very important to take a balanced nutritional vegan diet. It can be achieved through research, consulting with health care professionals and proper planning. It ensures that the diet is full of nutrition and doesn’t create any nutritional deficiency or health issues in future.
This type of raw vegan diet leads to so many deficiencies in the human body and the health care professionals never suggest to take completely raw vegan diets.
This might have changed the ageing of skin and looked younger than the age but leads to several diseases as well.
