Himachal Rains: Landslide hits in Shimla’s Summer Hill

An official has confirmed that a landslide happened in the Summer Hill area of Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, on Wednesday.

Locals have corroborated the tally that there may be 21 bodies, according to SDM Shimla (Urban) Bhanu Gupta, who was quoted by ANI. In the past two days, we have found 12 of those bodies. The NDRF, SDRF, army, local police, and home guard make up our team.We’ll properly rescue any survivors if we hear anything favorable about them.

In several places of Himachal Pradesh, persistently high rainfall is wreaking havoc and destroying homes, businesses, and other structures.

According to the Dehradun Met Department, there will be light to moderate rain and thunderstorms across the majority of the Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar districts, as well as Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, and Almora, and a few other districts in Uttarakhand.

Additionally, isolated locations in the Uttarakhand districts of Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar are likely to see significant rainfall. In remote areas of Uttarakhand’s districts, thunderstorms with lightning and intense to extremely intense periods are expected to happen.

Five to seven homes were destroyed by a landslide earlier on Tuesday in Shimla’s Krishna Nagar neighborhood.

According to the authorities, there were worries that residents would become trapped under the rubble. Rescue efforts were being led by members of the NDRF, SDRF, and state police in response.

An airlift mission was carried out by the Indian Air Force earlier on Tuesday to evacuate 18 soldiers from the army in support of the rescue efforts following the landslides in Shimla.

The Indian Air Force said on Tuesday that a Chinook helicopter of the Western Air Command transported 18 members of the Indian Army and a 3-Ton Mini Dozer in a single sortie for rescue operations in regions impacted by landslides close to Shimla in Himachal Pradesh.

To improve the disaster management procedures, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu called a meeting with the powerful committee on Tuesday.

He emphasized that an exceptional increase of 157% in rainfall over the previous four days had caused catastrophic devastation throughout the entire state.

He underscored that his administration is committed to moving the restoration effort along as quickly as possible. Approximately 400 of the 1,220 blocked roads, according to him, have been effectively reopened.

Additionally, the Chief Minister issued unequivocal directives to quickly restore the damaged water and energy systems.

“Torrential rains have caused more than 500 trees to be uprooted as a result of Shimla’s urban growth, potentially causing difficulties for locals. The Forest Department was instructed to remove the fallen trees as soon as possible and correctly to allay these worries. To ensure the successful completion of this task, adequate people should be provided, the speaker stated.
