AAP  Member Raghav Chadha Suspension News:

Raghav Chadha, a member of the Aam Aadmi Party, was suspended from the Rajya Sabha today for “breach of privilege” following complaints from four other members who claimed he had named them in a house panel without their permission in violation of the norms.
To suspend Raghav Chadha till the privileges committee provides its findings on the cases of privilege breach, the upper house adopted a motion that was proposed by Piyush Goyal, the leader of the house. The AAP leader’s “unethical conduct,” which Mr. Goyal criticized as a “outrageous disregard of the rules,” was cited by Mr. Goyal.

In a Rajya Sabha bulletin on Wednesday, it was stated that the chairman had received complaints from MPs Sasmit Patra, S Phangnon Konyak, M. Thambidurai, and Narhari Amin alleging that Raghav Chadha had violated their privilege by, among other things, using their names in a motion on August 7 without their permission and in violation of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business.

Piyush Goyal asserted that the government has presented a convincing case, saying “all six members are disturbed, hurt, and looking to the chair for justice.”

The names of the four MPs were included in Mr. Chadha’s proposal to form a Select Committee to examine the “Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023.”

Sanjay Singh, another AAP member, has had his suspension time extended till the privileges committee rules on any charges against him.

The home was unable to function because Sanjay Singh shown disobedience by refusing to leave the chamber, according to Mr. Goyal. “He did not show any remorse, instead he kept justifying his behavior,” Mr. Goyal said.

Mr. Chadha dismissed the accusations Tuesday, claiming that the ruling party had chosen to pursue him because it could not accept that a 34-year-old MP challenged its most powerful figures. He pressed BJP leaders to produce any paper on which he had forged someone else’s signature.

“Repeat a lie 1,000 times, and it becomes the truth, according to the BJP. A campaign of misinformation against me was started after adopting this ethos. To clear the air, I had to appear before you today for that reason,” he stated.

The Bill, which aims to rein in the national capital’s bureaucracy, has been approved by Parliament.

Mr. Chadha had stated, waving a red book outlining Rajya Sabha regulations, that no one’s signature or written agreement was required in order to suggest their name for a select committee.

“Whenever a contentious bill is brought before the House, a member who wants it to be thoroughly debated before a vote suggests putting it to a select committee. MPs’ names have been suggested for this panel. People may remove their names from consideration for the committee if they so want. How can it be forged if there isn’t a signature? Asking, Mr. Chadha.
