The second day’s proceedings got off to a shaky start with adjournments in both Houses immediately after the day’s business began. An uproar over the Manipur violence issue caused the Lok Sabha to be adjourned initially until 12 pm and subsequently for the remainder of the day. The Rajya Sabha experienced a similar situation when members raised points of order relating to the Manipur issue, and the Upper House was suspended until 2:30 p.m.

The first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which started on Thursday, was dominated by the Manipur situation, with the Opposition demanding that the Centre discuss the matter. Upon reconvening after lunch, both Houses were adjourned for the day. Immediately prior to the Lower House’s adjournment, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi addressed the audience that the government is prepared to hold debates in both Houses about the violence in Manipur, and that the Home Minister would respond after the discussions were finished.

In preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has been challenged by the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), which was formed by 26 opposition parties.
