Manipur Violence Case Updates:
Media sources claim that two tribal women were gang-raped and killed in the violent state of Manipur on the same day that a video of two naked women being paraded by a group of twelve men went viral on social media.
According to accounts, the victims were Imphal residents who had previously worked at a car wash and were from the Manipur district of Kangpokpi. The women are said to have been slain at their place of employment on May 4 after being kidnapped and gang-raped.
The mother of one of the victims complained to the Saikul authorities Station on May 5, but authorities didn’t file a FIR until May 16. According to the FIR, the suspects have been charged with a number of IPC offenses, including murder under Section 302, rape under Section 375, kidnapping under Section 366, and more.
On May 4 in the Manipur district of Thoubal, two Kuki women were gang-raped after being displayed naked by a mob. Nearly two months after the incident, the video became viral on social media, inciting outrage across the nation and prompting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make a pointed remark.
According to reports, the incident happened immediately after fighting in Churachandpur, where the Kuki group had challenged a plan to provide scheduled tribe status to the dominant Meitei population.
On July 19, Manipur Police stated that a case had been opened at the Nongpok Sekmai police station in the Thoubal district on allegations of kidnapping, gang rape, and murder.
A copy of the FIR filed in this case, which PTI has seen, described the mayhem that took place before to the kidnapping and the despicable behavior with tribal women, the basis for which has now been a video that has led to raids and the arrest of those linked with the crime.
