Manipur Violence Case :

According to a source, investigators have confiscated the phone that was used to film the footage of two women in Manipur being paraded naked and abused by a mob. On July 19, the May 4 footage leaked, igniting fury across the country. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will now take over the investigation of this matter.

The insider further stated that the government would like to have this matter tried in a court in the neighboring state of Assam, which is outside of the state. Tomorrow, it’s expected that the administration will make a request of the Supreme Court.

Leaders of the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur are in contact with representatives of the Union Home Ministry. Getting both groups to the negotiating table, according to the source, is the primary priority.

He added that both communities have differing views on reconciliation, but the administration remains optimistic that progress will be made in the negotiations shortly.

Prime Minister closely monitoring Manipur situation

According to the source, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been closely following each development in Manipur and has been receiving regular reports on the situation. He stated that on some days, PM Modi receives a three-times-daily update on the state of affairs in Manipur.

Security beefed up amid violence 

Over 35000 soldiers from the Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been sent as additional security due to the state’s continued violence. Between the valley regions, which are ruled by Meitei, and the hill regions, which are dominated by Kuki, security officers have established a buffer zone.

The Indo-Myanmar border in the area is now being worked on to install fencing. The border wall between Manipur and Mizoram has a total length of 10 km, and additional survey work is being done in a warlike manner. To complete border barrier as soon as feasible, agencies have been given instructions.

Opposition bloc INDIA set to visit Manipur

On July 29 and 30, opposition alliance INDIA is scheduled to visit the state despite the continuing unrest. A delegation of 20 opposition MPs will visit Manipur this weekend, according to Congress whip Manickam Tagore in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Among the 20 MPs visiting the state, according to sources, will be Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, Gaurav Gogoi, Premachandran, and Vandana Chavan.

A video of the May 4 incident in which the two Manipur women were paraded in the public in their underwear went viral on social media earlier this month, igniting indignation across the country. Over 160 people have already died in Manipur’s nearly three-month-long ethnic strife.

The Modi government has been shaken by this issue since the start of the Monsoon session of Parliament on July 20. The opposition took the chance to put pressure on the government.
