The country’s rising tomato costs were discussed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India Limited (NCCF) will sell the tomatoes in the Delhi-NCR region for 70 rupees, the Union Minister announced in Lok Sabha.

The Finance Minister stated in parliament that “NCCF is planning a sale of tomatoes in the Delhi-NCR region this weekend at a subsidized rate of 70 and covering all the nooks and crannies of Delhi.”

To be given through cooperative societies like NCCF and NAFED, tomatoes are being purchased from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka, according to the finance minister. She added that this approach has been in use since July 14 in states like Rajasthan, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh.

She continued, “I want to stress the fact that we are taking enough measures on these important items, but more will be taken since we are cognizant that people need essentials at a cheap price.

The government has started importing tomatoes from Nepal after lifting import restrictions, and the first shipment is anticipated to arrive in Varanasi, Lucknow, and Kanpur by Friday, according to Finance Minister Sitharaman.
