The Congress party is presently executing a closed-door meeting with their top leaders to deliberate upon the purpose of the Union Civil Code (UCC) in the country, All India Congress Committee sources said on Saturday.
According to the information from the sources, senior Congress leaders, including P Chidambaram, Salman Khurshid, Vivek Tankha, KTS Tulsi, Lok Sabha MP Manish Tewari, L Hanumanthaiah and Abhishek Manu Singhvi, were attending the meeting, and the Congress Party ends to discuss its potential implementation in the country. The Congress Party has abstained from articulating its stand on the proposed legislation tell the prominent government comes out with a draft of the same.
Article 44 of the Constitution of India highlights the state’s responsibility to strive for a union Civil Code throughout the nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has advocated strongly for the implementation of the Union Civil Code (UCC). The Uniform Civil Code aims to bring about a common set of laws that would apply to all citizens of the country, irrespective of their religious alliance. Union Civil Code seeks to promote equality, eliminate discriminatory practices and foster national integration, the UCC established a unified set of laws pretending to marriage, inheritance, adoption and related matters.
