BJP Announces Candidates Names:

For the upcoming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the BJP today unveiled the first names of candidates. It is the first time that the BJP has done so before the Election Commission of India has released the election dates.
In addition to 39 candidates for the 230-member Madhya Pradesh house, the party has also announced 21 candidates for the 90-member Chhattisgarh Assembly.

The news comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a meeting of the BJP’s central election committee, which is responsible for choosing candidates and developing campaign strategy.

The BJP leadership’s unprecedented choice to reveal candidates’ identities far in advance of the election seems to be an attempt to discover discord within the ranks and address problems before they arise.

The party is not in the mood for another disaster after the election defeat in Karnataka earlier this year. Along with Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh are among the five states holding elections this year.

Opposition groups currently control Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Telangana out of these. Following the upheaval in Manipur, the BJP’s relations with its allies, including the state’s ruling Mizo National Front, have been tense. And a tight race between the BJP and the Congress is anticipated in Madhya Pradesh.

Vijay Baghel, a Durg-based MP for the Lok Sabha, is one name that stands out on the Chhattisgarh list. He was once a Patan MLA and is now running from the same seat. The first list omits the names of former chief minister Raman Singh and other important party figures.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, and other notable ministers’ names are not in the initial list of contenders.

Five women, ten candidates from the Scheduled Tribes, and one candidate from the Scheduled Castes make up the BJP’s Chhattisgarh list. The party has selected five women, eight candidates from scheduled castes, and 13 candidates from scheduled tribes for Madhya Pradesh.
